How does Earth work, and why do mountains and volcanoes appear on specific places around the globe? Why does every mountain have a unique shape, and where does all the water originate from?

Fredrik’s curiosity about Earth led him to the University of Gothenburg and the Institution of Geoscience. In fall 2009 he gets his bachelor's degree in bedrock geology.

He is passionate about educating and inspiring the public about geoscience, preferably in combination with adventures and unique images. From December 2008 to March 2009, Fredrik visited some of the most active volcanic areas on the planet, to experience, document and describe the volcanoes influence on past, present and future climate as well as the affect on global and local environments.

Geoscience is a important disciplin, and the aim of the volcano project was to make this disciplin exciting, interesting and accessible for the public via blog, media, exhibitions and lectures. In fall 2009 Fredrik started the Swedish web site www.geovetenskap.se to make news about geo science accessable for the public.

Fredrik, and his travel partner Tormod Granheim, experienced lava flows, volcanic eruptions, amazing volcanic features and meetings with people living in the shadow of active volcanoes.
